Tetra Tech was contracted to conduct a field survey designed to identify the distribution of northern goshawks and three-toed woodpeckers in a selected portion of a proposed power line corridor in the State of Oregon. These two species were identified by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife as being sensitive bird species in the region. There were over 600 sampling sites surveyed during each of the six separate sampling events conducted over a two year period. The sampling protocol involved broadcasting mating or territorial calls of the designated species in an attempt to get a vocal response from the species of interest. At each calling station, the presence or absence of the designated species was noted and a list of all other bird species observed was compiled. The results of the survey were used to help select the location of a power line corridor that would have the least impact on the sensitive wildlife species in the region.
